We Slipped and Slid

My husband and I love to explore new places and on the first really warm day recently, we decided to escape the confines of our home and go for a hike in a nearby conservation park.

The drive there was beautiful.  The hike once in there was….well…. unpredictable.  We stumbled up some hills, slid down others.  Where it seemed the ground was dry was in fact covered with mud.  On two occasions my husband fell after stepping upon what he thought was solid ground.  In other areas the path was still covered in snow and ice – certainly not conducive to relaxed hiking, even though we wore our hiking boots.

Along the way we equipped ourselves with sturdy walking poles, conveniently left by others who had gone before us.

We actually managed to walk a good distance up, down and around the trails, but when we met other hikers who informed us the road ahead was very tricky (silly us, we thought we were already on tricky ground) we decided to be wise and turn back the way we had come; rather than chance more accidents.  We made it safely back to our car, at least having enjoyed the fresh spring air.

Jude 1:24-25 To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy – to the only God our Savior be glory, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Similarly our lives can be like that!  We make decisions that seem perfectly sound at the time.   We only find later that some of those choices proved to be unpredictable and even harmful.  We slip and fall and get back onto our feet to try another way, in the hope we will not encounter more solid ground and our lives will become more stable.

The only proven way is to live is to depend on God and the advice laid out in His Word – the Bible.  There are no wrong turns, no sudden surprises – just honest to goodness wise counsel.

Psalm 32:8  I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.

Trying to go it alone, often gets us into trouble but when we seek God’s guidance we will overcome all that is detrimental to us, with His help.

PrayerAbba, lead us in Your ways.  Show us the pathway we should on and hold us close to Your side to enable us to follow You and all that You want to share with us.  Amen
